Independent power, properly planned
Off-Grid Solar
Power where a mains connection is unavailable or impractical. GS Solar can assess and design a solar, battery and inverter system around the way you actually use electricity.

How does off-grid power work?
Solar panels generate electricity during daylight. An inverter makes that power usable for your appliances, while batteries store energy for evenings and low-light periods. If demand exceeds what the panels and batteries can provide, a suitably designed system may use a generator for backup.

Unlike an ordinary grid-connected solar installation, a fully off-grid system has no mains supply to fill the gaps.
Built for the place, not a package
Every site is different. A boat, remote workshop or isolated building will have its own space limits, usage pattern and seasonal demands. The system must be sized for the times when sunlight is scarce, not just for a sunny afternoon.
We can discuss panels, battery storage, inverter and charging equipment, monitoring and generator integration as part of one considered design. The right specification follows a site assessment, not a fixed kit list.

What we assess before recommending a system
What needs powering
We look at everyday electricity use and short bursts of demand from equipment such as pumps, tools and appliances.
Solar through the seasons
Panel location, shade and lower winter daylight all affect how much electricity can be generated when it matters most.
Storage & resilience
Battery capacity is planned around overnight use and periods of poor weather, with generator support considered where appropriate.

Power aboard and beyond the mains
Our project photos show off-grid equipment in a dedicated power room, a separate battery installation and a boat. These are different environments with the same essential question: what power is needed, and how will it be supplied when the sun is not shining?
Tell us what you want to run, where the system will be installed and whether you already have any solar, batteries or a generator. We will help you explore a practical approach.
Monitoring your system
Compatible off-grid equipment can show solar production, battery charge and electricity use, helping you understand how the system is performing. Where suitable, remote monitoring can also help identify issues early. Available features depend on the equipment selected and connectivity at the site.
Technical approach informed by Victron Energy’s off-grid guidance; every GS Solar design is assessed for its own site.
Off-grid solar questions
Is off-grid solar the same as a battery on a grid-connected home?
No. A grid-connected system can draw electricity from the mains when solar and stored energy are insufficient. A true off-grid system has no grid to fall back on, so its solar, battery and any generator support must be designed around the full demand.
Will solar alone keep an off-grid property powered all winter?
Not necessarily. Generation can be much lower in winter and during prolonged cloudy weather. We assess your usage and site before recommending a battery size, panel capacity and whether a backup generator is sensible.
Can an existing off-grid system be expanded?
Potentially. Compatibility, available space, electrical capacity and the condition of the existing equipment all need checking first. We can review what you already have and discuss suitable options.
